Who we are

Dirt Addictions was originally a motorsports shop until the mid 2000’s in Las Vegas, NV; owned by a man named Rick Essex, who unfortunately passed away in a plane wreck in the fall of 2020.

Rick always encouraged his nephew, Zachary Starr, to pursue his lifelong dreams of riding motocross professionally and working in the industry.

He had many twists and turns in his motocross career after having a bad crash from 30 feet in the air resulting in 2 broken tibias, a broken fibula as well as a broken femur in 2018.

Starr then not only had to re-learn how to use his legs again and how to walk again, but also began an uphill battle with addiction and increased mental health issues.

He soon developed a relationship with Metal Mulisha OG legend, Colin ‘Scummy’ Morrison, who took him under his wing and allowed him to travel to numerous supercross races filming videos and taking pictures while he networked with other pro motocross and supercross racers, freestyle motocross riders, and other big names in the action sports industry.

Unfortunately the Covid-19 pandemic fiasco had a very harsh and negative impact on Starr and, in combination with other unfortunate events, his addiction only got worse until he found Jesus Christ, who then guided him to Awaken Church in San Diego, California which had weekly recovery meetings on Tuesdays where he began to get sober and received an Idea from God to launch a faith based clothing brand in the motocross industry with the sole mission of leading people in the industry to Jesus and helping them find true and genuine freedom from addiction and mental health issues.

That company is what is now known as Dirt Addictions
